Successful event on Wednesday!

Apr 22nd, 2011 by Jim

Just a quick post to let everyone know that Beyond the Spill at the Alberta Rose Theatre was a great success on Wednesday night!  The music program led by Reggie Houston was fantastic and John Waller’s film was quite moving and thought provoking.  Now the question is (on many levels) where do we go from here?

This event is a great example of what Gulfsongs would like to create in the future – opportunities that focus on arts, education, and activism in support of finding solutions to the environmental, social, and economic issues in the Gulf that affect us all.

We would like to thank our co-presenter – PDX 2 Gulf Coast, filmmaker John Waller, musicians Reggie Houston, Steve Kerin, Janice Scroggins, DK Stewart, Andrew Oliver and Laura Ivancie, all of our sponsors and partners, and everyone who came out to the Alberta Rose on Wednesday evening!

Here’s a couple of shots from the event ….

Last April Mike Rosen, organizer of the PDX 2 Gulf Coast project, attended the 21st Triennial International Oil Spill Conference 2011 in Portland Oregon.  Here is what he observed. Anyone who is still skeptical that the 200 million gallons of oil carelessly released into the Gulf of Mexico during spring/summer of 2010 has magically disappeared and [...] […]
